Pets at Work Sharing. . . .Love

Welcome to the home page for the PAWS of Yucaipa, CA founders, Vickie & Ray Perryman

Vickie & Ray Perryman

Christmas is traditionally a time of giving for those who want to share their love and express it through gift-giving with family and friends. However, there is a group, that along with their furry friends, gives and gives to the senior citizens the whole year through.

Pets at Work Sharing Love, affectionately known as PAWS, is a group of people and animals dedicated to improving the quality of life for our senior citizens and disabled. The Perryman's founded the PAWS group two years ago when they discovered while operating Vickie's dog training classes in Oak Glen, CA that a lot of great people wanted to work with and share their pets. They got together and PAWS of Yucaipa Valley was born.

All animals must be in general good health, have all immunizations and have a series of tests to assure they are free of parasites before they are allowed to visit with the ill or elderly. Then the real work begins, all pets must go through a tried and proven set of training classes. There they will be tested for their ability to be gentle and loving. They are trained to come up to a wheelchair, bed or walker for a visit with a patient. They are also trained to be aware of IV tubing and other medical devices. Their only reward (and it is a great one) is seeing the faces light up when one of these furry friends walks up and puts it's head on their lap and allows the patients to love and sometimes even kiss them all they want.

From puppies to life savers, Brandy and Stormy

From the time they were born Brandy and Stormy have shown that they were very special animals. Their training to become search and rescue dogs started as pups. Along with Vickie and Ray they have spent endless hours training to become qualified search and rescue teams. Vickie/Brandy and Ray/Stormy are members of NASAR, National Search and Rescue and CARDA, the CA Rescue Dog Association, which includes over 100 teams state wide. Stormy and Brandy work with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department doing search and rescue. They are trained to find drowning victims, Alzheimer's patients, children and adults lost in the wilderness or in disasters. Their training never stops as they are required to go to training sessions every weekend, this is neccessary in order to keep their skills finely tuned. As you can see these are truly two very exceptional animals, always loving, caring and giving with only one desire: To help those that cannot help themselves.
